ABOUT THE PASTORS

On December 15, 1951 Joe & Iva Jean Underwood were married by Rev. Dexter H. McMahon under a tent at Calvary Gospel Tabernacle at 2480 Potomac Ave.  Bakersfield, CA.  Joe became one of the original Deacons of the Church where he held that spot until the late 1960s.  In April of 1953 they had William J Underwood.  In February of 1956 Harvey and Shirley Johnson had Sharon Grace Underwood and in the 1960s, Sister Shirley Johnson began attending Calvary Gospel Tabernacle; (her aunt, sister Betty Brown had been attending since the 1950s.)

When the church split and a new work was stared under Bro. McMahon at Full Gospel Lighthouse, both The Underwood’s and the Johnson’s moved to the new Church, there William & Sharon were married in 1974 by Rev. Dexter H McMahon.  Later in 1974 the start of a music ministry began, The Lighthouse Boys were formed by William’s brother Mark Underwood and brother in-law Steve Johnson.  William joined with them and began traveling up and down California, The Lighthouse Boys went on to record a number of albums, win an award and tour the United States of America. The Lighthouse Boys are still active today, over 35 years later.

In 1985 William Underwood became licensed with the Assemblies of God and was asked to become Assistant Pastor of Full Gospel Lighthouse by Pastor Rev. Benjamin Armstrong.  In 1986 Rev. William and Sharon Underwood were elected as Pastors of Full Gospel Lighthouse, William became ordained under the Pentecostal Church of God.  William and Sharon would pastor until 1988.

Through the next several years, William continued to tour with The Lighthouse Boys preaching and singing.  William and Sharon would continue to help out many Churches in Bakersfield, CA.  Rev. Sharon Underwood was first ordained by the Church of God in 1995.

In 2005 Rev. Dexter H McMahon handed the organization of Calvary Gospel Tabernacle to William and Sharon where they began a new work under the name.  In the fall of 2006 Rev. William Underwood became ordained by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Rev. Sharon Underwood was also ordained by the IPHC in 2008. Today Rev.
